Who Are We?
Nicole is responsible for creating the evolving New Visions high school ELA curriculum. She began her teaching career in Baltimore City as a Teach for America corps member and taught at the pilot Democracy Prep Charter High School in Harlem where she contributed to the composition of the English curriculum for the network. Prior to New Visions, Nicole was a founding staff member and the Director of Teacher Development at MESA Charter High School where she supported teachers instructionally and in developing standards-based curriculum. She is currently the Academic Board Chair for BELA Charter High School in Brooklyn. Nicole holds a B.A. in English Literature from Loyola University in Maryland and a M.A.T. from Johns Hopkins University.
Barbara collaborates with the curriculum and instruction unit and is responsible for developing the special education instructional framework. Before coming to New Visions, Barbara supported teachers with curriculum development and creating inclusive learning environments as a Hunter College instructor and special education coordinator. Previously, she was a special education teacher across content areas. She holds an M.S.Ed. from Long Island University - Brooklyn and is finishing up her Ph.D. in Urban Education from the CUNY Graduate Center.
