  • construct and interpret representations for bivariate data
    • construct two way frequency tables and summarize data for each category
      • identify and interpret jointmarginal and conditional relative frequencies 
      • interpret relative frequencies in context and describe possible trends
    • analyze and describe the correlation between data points in a set  
      • explain the relationship between variables for the graph of a scatter plot
      • justify a function family that best models the data set 
      • differentiate correlation and causation
    • interpret a single data point and explain its relationship to the data set
      • identify an outlier in the data set and justify reasoning
    • create a scatter plot and justify the correlation between data points in a set

 

  • interpret and compare data points of a scatterplot using the line of best fit  
    • explore what the line of best fit represents for a scatter plot
    • predict and justify other possible data points using the line of best fit
      • interpolate or extrapolate and describe possible problems for each estimation method
    • draw the line of best fit for a data set using a variety of methods and  justify each approach
      • Example:  equal number of data points on each side of the line, informally “measure” the distance of points from the line, line passes through the most points in the set, etc.
    • create and justify a linear function rule that best models a data set
      • quantitatively measure the strength of the linear relationship by computing and interpreting the correlation coefficient
    • analyze residual patterns to justify if the line of best fit ideally fits the data set
      • calculate the difference between actual and predicted data points
      • create a residual plot and use this to assess the line of best fit
