Formative Assessment Lessons for Algebra

What have your students learned about Algebra this year?

The purpose of using these Classroom Challenges is to develop conceptual understanding of key ideas in Algebra I.

On the Algebra I Common Core Regents examination, the most frequently assessed CCLS domains are

  • A-REI, Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities
  • A-CED, Creating Equations
  • F-IF, Interpreting Functions
  • F-LE, Linear, Quadratic, & Exponential Models

These recommended Classroom Challenges build students content skills in these domains and in key related clusters.  Significantly, the non-routine nature of the individual and collaborative work within the challenges build students practice skills, both overall (SMP3) and with specific problem-solving approaches (SMP2, SMP7, SMP8).
