The purpose of using these Classroom Challenges is to develop conceptual understanding of key ideas in Algebra I.

On the Algebra I Common Core Regents examination, the most frequently assessed CCLS domains are

- A-REI, Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities
- A-CED, Creating Equations
- F-IF, Interpreting Functions
- F-LE, Linear, Quadratic, & Exponential Models

These recommended Classroom Challenges build students content skills in these domains and in key related clusters. Significantly, the non-routine nature of the individual and collaborative work within the challenges build students practice skills, both overall (SMP3) and with specific problem-solving approaches (SMP2, SMP7, SMP8).
