TYWLS Harlem Science teacher Melina Melendez was a fan of using the OPTIQ reading routine in the past. With the new remote learning setting, Melina tried the newly adapted OPTIQ with both a live Chat and then again with a shared google doc. In both scenarios, Melina pushes her students to examine the different parts of a visual first, and then share their inferences before guessing what the visual is about.

Watch Melina direct with clear instructions on how to use OPTIQ with the live Chat and then with a shared google doc. One advantage to the shared google doc is that students who could not attend the live class, can still be a part of the activity and offer their own comments.
