How can I support and assess the development of historical thinking skills?

Unit Outline

5 Components

Adapted from materials created by the Stanford History Education GroupSmithsonian’s History Explorer, and the George W Bush Library and Museum, this set of resources & activities introduces students to the historical thinking skills that they will employ throughout secondary and postsecondary history courses. By selecting appropriate activities, teachers can lead students through the study of what it means to think like a historian, as well as the development of skills such as:  corroboration, perspective, contextualization, and sourcing.

Teachers do not have to use all of the materials at once - but are encouraged to cherry pick as they see necessary throughout the school year.

We do encourage ALL teachers to use the baseline assessment at the start of the year.
