Unit 5 bridges the gap between literature and reality. Students will experience what it means to grow up- as they read and as they reflect on their own lives. As they follow their coming-of-age protagonist through his/her quest, students will examine their own realities by assessing the "facts" that are presented to them on a daily basis in news sources. Unit 5 culminates in the composition of an argument in the Disproving Fake News/ Writing from Sources essay, as well as using formal discussion as a way to reflect on learning through the Character Roundtable.
