How do we get our students to reflect on new information they just learned? TYWLS Harlem ELA teacher Emily Wylie presented a combination of a video and short text about poetry techniques. Emily then used Ruminate micro-routine for her students to reflect on what they considered important information.
By reviewing their own hand-written notes, sharing and reading notes of their peers, Emily's 6th graders were able to articulate key takeaways about their new learning.
Watch Emily use the steps of the micro-routine, positive encouragement and a creative exit slip to observe her students' thinking about what information is important to them.
