There are plotlines in literature that have proven the test of time. These plotlines are reinvented by writers time after time, engaging new and old readers alike, but ultimately retelling the same story. This unit serves to unpack one of the most frequented plotlines in literature- the hero and the quest- in order to provide students with the foundational knowledge needed to make deeper connections to the hero and the quest in modern literature. Teachers are encouraged to start of the school year with the 10th grade baseline assessment in order to assess student writing on the 8 skills-ladders for this grade.
