Comparing Sexual and Asexual Reproduction 3E Instructional Model Plan

Plan for teaching how to compare sexual and asexual reproduction using 3 phases of the 5E Instructional Model as a framework

2 - 3 days

Organisms may reproduce sexually, asexually, or utilize both modes of reproduction depending on their environment. Both sexual and asexual reproduction confer advantages and disadvantages to the individual organism and the population as whole. In this sequence, students explore these concepts and gain an understanding of the idea that sexual reproduction is especially important in maintaining genetic diversity which may lead to increased disease resistance and viability of a population in an unstable environment.
