It also provides an option for having students begin to develop their capacity for constructing scientific explanations, a skill that is crucial for sensemaking throughout this course and in the realm of science.

How does the invasion of zebra mussels in the Hudson River affect one biotic or abiotic factor in the river ecosystem? To answer this question, students write a scientific explanation using evidence from texts, videos, and secondary data sources, along with sound scientific reasoning and logic, in order to support their claim.

In this task, students create a cladogram that most accurately represents the evolutionary relationships between the organisms given. Students use evidence from the unit to justify the choices made in your cladogram, including an explanation of why there are both similarities and differences across all of the organisms.
