Elizabeth Shadock | Lead Curriculum Development and Professional Learning Manager 

Elizabeth Shadock has been working at New Visions for over 8 years and has worked on a variety of curriculum projects related to the adoption of effective instructional practices in social studies, literacy, and technology use in the classroom, including coaching global history teachers participating in the grant-funded Drive To Write program. Before coming to New Visions, she worked for 10 years as a high school English literature and history teacher in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and at international schools in Brazil and China. Elizabeth holds a B.A. in history and communications from Texas State University and a M.Ed in educational technology from the University of Texas.

Aliza Kapel | Social Studies Curriculum Development Specialist

Aliza is responsible for developing curriculum and designing instructional resources for Social Studies. Prior to joining New Visions, she was a high school then middle school social studies teacher in the Bronx. She has also worked as a LGBTQ history education consultant and advocate. She holds a B.A. in History from Washington State University and a M.Ed. in Social Studies Secondary Education from Lehman College.

Magellan Pfluke | Social Studies Professional Learning Specialist

Magellan partners with teachers to foster criticality, creativity, curiosity, and compassion in Social Studies instruction. Prior to joining New Visions, he served for 8 years as a high school educator, twice as a Founding 11th Grade U.S. History teacher. Most recently, he spent 3 years teaching AP Research in an AP-For-All context. He also has experience in teacher leadership, curriculum development, and improvisation facilitation. Magellan holds a B.A. in History with a minor in Creative Writing from Stanford University, along with a Masters in Effective Teaching from Sposato Graduate School of Education.
