Algebra II Unit Plan for Unit 2

This is a printable version of the entire unit plan. You can make a copy of it and edit it or download and print it as needed.

Combining Linear, Quadratic, and Exponential Functions

Resource:
Combining Linear, Quadratic, and Exponential Functions

Chunk sequences to match visuals of sequences to function rules.

All Resources From:
Comparing Arithmetic, Geometric, Quadratic Sequences

Resource:
Comparing Arithmetic, Geometric, Quadratic Sequences

Students will be able to look at different visual patterns and connect them to appropriate sequence descriptions helping them to distinguish arithmetic, geometric, and quadratic sequences.

Comparing Investments

Resource:
Comparing Investments

This lesson unit is intended to help you assess how well students are able to interpret exponential and linear functions and in particular to identify and help students who have the following difficulties:

* Translating between descriptive, algebraic and tabular data, and graphical representation of the functions.
* Recognizing how, and why, a quantity changes per unit interval.

To achieve these goals students work on simple and compound interest problems.

All Resources From:
Comparing Notations in Exponential Functions

Resource:
Comparing Notations in Exponential Functions

Connect two different types of exponential representations using the structure of the representations.

All Resources From:
Difference of Two Sequences

Resource:
Difference of Two Sequences

Students will look at graph of an Arithmetic Sequence and a Geometric Sequence and calculate the difference of their next terms.

End of Unit Assessment (Algebra II, Unit 2)

After this unit, how prepared are your students for the end-of-course Regents examination?  The end of unit assessment is designed to surface how students understand the mathematics in the unit.  It includes spiralled multiple choice and constructed response questions, comparable to those on the end-of-course Regents examination.  A rich task, that allows for multiple entry points and authentic assessment of student learning, may be available for some units and can be included as part of the end of unit assessment.  All elements of the end of unit assessment are aligned to the NYS Mathematics Learning Standards and PARCC Model Frameworks prioritization.

Having Kittens

Resource:
Having Kittens

This lesson is designed to help students develop strategies for modeling, and to guide them in observing key features of an exponential function.

This lesson unit is intended to help you assess how well students are able to:

* Interpret a situation and represent the constraints and variables mathematically.
* Select appropriate mathematical methods to use.
* Make sensible estimates and assumptions.
* Investigate an exponentially increasing sequence.
* Communicate their reasoning clearly.
