Students analyze different representations of quadratic functions to determine what characteristics of quadratic functions are true for every quadratic function, and then extend their understanding to analyze polynomial functions.

Students are asked to identify what they think are the key features of a graph representing the water storage in a reservoir. They need to interpret what those key features mean and make appropriate conjectures for how residents should respond.

A situation is given with a graph to model it. Students must interpret how well the graph models the situation and create their own graph to model it more accurately. This activity provides opportunity to discuss continuous vs step functions and how well they model situations.
